A major challenge in neurosciences is the understanding of the complex function of neurons involving independent signals at subcellular compartments.

This challenge requires the measurement of electrical and chemical signals from dendrites, spines, axons and synaptic terminals.

Notably, neurons are not electrically compact and local membrane potential changes, as well as chemical signals, regulate the development and evolution of functional neuronal circuitries.

It is therefore crucial to develop novel methods to record voltage and calcium with improved resolution.
